A moment I won't forget

A decorative concrete sunscreen
Figures strongly in my mind
A double repeating pattern
As I lay in the upper bunk
My daddy was an army man
I lived in Asmara Ethiopia
We vacationed in Massawa
On the Red Sea
We swam with the wildlife
Were rowed out to Green Island
To walk the sandy beach
Picnicking under the trees.
Strongly I remember that sunscreen
Feeling the breeze as I listened
To the adults laughing and talking
It makes me smile

A work in progress

Watching you rake the leaves
With your grandson on your back
I think of all the lovely compost
I’ll be harvesting from your work
I hear him laugh as you flip the leaves high
I know when he’s grown he’ll have days
He wants to rake and will wonder why
Where did all these happy feelings
Come from, the laughter that accompanies the sound of leaves brushing over leaves.

November

Well I couldn't stop myself I'm doing the November poetry chap book challenge. I'm the first person to admit I'm not a poet, but gosh darn it (giggle) I really enjoy writing poems.

I found out there's a novel in month challenge I thought about doing it but the 1666 words a day put me off. I'm writing 2 books at the moment and editing two others so I just don't think I could fit that many words in and write poetry :). They have a childrens challenge too but alas all my children are adults now.
I thought I should go ahead and get this set up. Hopefully I'll have something to say!
I can do it!!!
