Signed the newest quilt

This is my favorite way to bind,
first the material is just rolled up from the back.
Then I pull the corner up and snip it off.
I was trying to think of a 1/4" seam allowance.

I pinned it down

Had to roll the quilt up because I sewing from the center out.
It just seems to lay better.

I start in the middle.

I really like the plain back.
Here's my corner

I like the way the front and back contrast.

I'm going to have to work on these corners.

This is the first picture of the saturn material I like.

I'm not making these real heavy, I'm using a light blanket as the center.

This is the video I'm using to try to learn how to bind a quilt.
I've always thought Sewing with Nancy's stiletto was so cool, but I've never seen one. I was shopping at Harbor Freight with my hubby and saw this little set of tools. It looks like a cross between a dentists tools and some torture devices. :) Sort of works with my other career.
So far I've just used the straight one but it has a great grip and is sturdy. The entire set was only 2.99$

Well it's done. This one had extra material all around it from the bottom so I just met the edge to edge and then turned it over once. I wiggled the corners into place and no they are not any where near perfect but I think my Grandson won't mind.
It ended up being 58" by 35" It will be a nice blanket to cuddle on the couch with.
I tried using a blanket stitch but after one short end I went to a regular straight stitch. :)

I got side tracked from my small quilts to the lovies and now I need to get these two bound. I've decided to make two more. I just have to find a backing material I like. The number and ABC one is for my Grandson. The other is back with a dark black material with gold Saturns on it. The picture bleached it out a bit.

Two down

Isaac approved the 2nd blanket, now I just need to toss it in the wash and I can package it up for the next baby.

Deborah and I decided only the ends should be wrapped on this one.

All the sewing has just been a thought and doing it. I'm not experienced at quiltish sewing.

My corners didn't all meet and I made a mistake when I tried to bind the layers and I had to make corners to hide the mistakes. :)

I sewed around the flowers then skipped them if the straight lines met them.

I fray checked the flowers then washed the blanket to make sure there would be no suprises.

I'm going to give this one to Johnathan born Aug 17th 2010

Backs of Lovies

It took a few days before I finally was ready to put together the tops but during that time I machine embroidered flowers made of diffrent material on the back. I used diffrent textures and colors.

I have babies coming, not mine but other peoples. I want to make something special. I pulled out the material that caught my eye.
I started by measuring the scrap and deciding on the size that would leave the least scrap.
Then I made a few layouts and posted them on Facebook so people could vote on their favorite. I tried to find a poll app but FB doesn't have one for us regular folk.
